Semi-live from Drip Lounge, the Drinking Partners welcome Ziggy Sawdust, founder of the Layer Cake Music Festival, and local comedian and host Stoph Edison. Stopping by to promote Layer Cake, a two-day music festival that spans across multiple Pittsburgh Venues (Mr. Smalls Theater, Cattivo Lounge, James St. Gastropub, Spirit Lodge), Ziggy and Stoph quickly jump into the conversation as the foursome energetically discuss dating and women. After a round of wild and testosterone-heavy storytelling, the men settle into a comprehensive conversation about music and the festival itself. With impromptu interruptions and amusing interludes with Drip Lounge patrons, the podcast moves at a lightning pace. Those interested in the Pittsburgh entertainment scene will find the episode an interesting listen, as the top producers in Pittsburgh share tips on both comedy and music production.

Does Ed have a resting bitch face? Is Day the most charitable, foul-mouthed comic on the scene? These hard-hitting questions get answered in this week’s podcast, which features a Skype interview with Bree Whitehead, Chief Dreamcatcher of Stoned Media Group. With brands such as Stoned Girls and Naked Weed Report, Stoned Media centers around cannabis culture, and Ms. Whitehead enthusiastically represents the company in this free-wielding and fun interview. The discussion shifts from serious (legalization concerns) to delirious (how to properly wear Converse shoes), and the trio is madly entertaining throughout. The Drinking Partners gush over Ms. Whitehead, perhaps partly out of fear, dubbing her a true Kingpin. The latter half of the interview, once Day finally wakes up, is a carnival of fun, flashing and bizarre, and, ultimately, a great time.

With a Sunday evening sermon inside the studio, Ed and Day spread cheerful blasphemy, amusingly becoming the Drinking Pastors as they riff about religion and the church. With hip-hop artist Mars Jackson as their guest, Ed and Day get reflective as they discuss family and childhood. Mars, the first hip-hop artist signed to Pittsburgh-based Misra Records, shares the experiences that shaped his upcoming album Unemployed Faith. A self-dubbed “street poet,” Mr. Jackson explores the concept of language and self-expression, an exploration of how art evolves from the personal. A passionate debate closes the podcast as the Drinking Partners and Mr. Jackson argue the merits of Eminem, with Ed the lone dissenting vote against him. An exciting episode that changes course from thoughtful to rambunctious.

In celebration of Pittsburgh Craft Beer week, the Drinking Partners welcome local comedian Mike Sasson into their “office,” and even get him to sip on a beer. From the start, the comics heckle and tease, sharing stories from the Pittsburgh comedy scene and entertaining each other, as well as the listeners. Ed, Day, and Mike embarked on their comedy careers within months of each other, and their rising popularities are discussed and analyzed, especially the idea of comedy as a business. From there, the podcast shifts to a conversation about celebrity, fame, and the control that an entertainer has over his/her product. In the latter half of the interview, the conversation turns temporarily serious, as the men wax philosophic on their futures in the industry. In the closing minutes, Mr. Sasson offers grand advice that resonates beyond the comedy world: Know who you are.

With guest co-host John Dick Winters filling in for Day, the Drinking Partners welcome Geoff Tate and Emma Arnold, nationally touring comedians visiting Pittsburgh for the Burning Bridges Comedy Festival. The podcast opens with Mr. Tate and Ms. Arnold describing their local comedy scenes and how they came to work together with the Make the Rounds tour. As independently touring comics, their insight is valuable and relevant, both for comedy and for entertainment in general. The conversation provides a detailed look into the lives of comedians and the commitment it takes to become successful. A fun listen that offers listeners an intimate glimpse into the lives of working comedians.
