Fresh off being voted the top podcast in Pittsburgh (City Paper Best of Pittsburgh 2016), the Drinking Partners get back to business by welcoming Pittsburgh Brewtal Fest organizers Meg and James Evans for a thoroughly enjoyable conversation. Cheerful and entertaining from the opening minutes, the interview offers an hour of amusing tales intermixed with the ideas behind Pittsburgh Brewtal Fest, a music and beer festival and collaboration between local breweries and bands. The conversation serves as a lesson in music for Ed, who blames his mom for “not ever putting him to sleep with metal.” Stay alert and be rewarded with Ed’s wildly fantastic impersonation of Missy Elliot and an outrageously memorable series of jokes following it. For more fun and to sample four, specially crafted, band-inspired beers only available at the festival, visit Pittsburgh Brewtal Fest on November 6 at Spirit Lodge in Lawrenceville.

The Drinking Partners find themselves serene and tranquil after an hour spent at Levity – an out of this world float studio located in Pittsburgh. Or, as Ed teases, “Day went into that deprivation tank a black man and came out a hippie.” Live after a session submerged in Epsom salt and ten inches of water, the Drinking Partners welcome Levity owner Dave Rapach, who explains the process behind the sensory, gravity-defying experience. A thorough and unguarded interview follows, with Ed and Day showing a newfound vulnerability and bliss. But even their relaxed states do not lessen their amusement, as they joke and jibe with Mr. Rapach. A fantastic listen, made even more enjoyable by the Drinking Partners openness and contagious delight. Visit Levity at 2635 Murray Avenue in Squirrel Hill or schedule a float session at www.floatlevity.com.

After a series of live podcasts, the Drinking Partners return to the studio and welcome Christian Simmons, founding owner of Pennsylvania Libations, a sales and distribution company that only features Pennsylvania-produced spirits. Mr. Simmons serves as a “brand ambassador” for over sixty companies and supplies bars and restaurants with locally made liquors and wines. While sipping on several of the products, Ed and Day listen as Mr. Simmons explains how his company began and the process of connecting local brands with a growing food and beverage industry. The discussion offers a wealth of insider knowledge as the group examines the chain of movement from distillery to glass and the importance of keeping spending locally based. In addition, the Drinking Partners learn the distinctive intricacies and unique properties that distinguish these Pennsylvanian spirits as superior products. Pennsylvania Libations, the only privatized company that sells all local liquors, will expand into its own storefront in the Strip District. For more information on how to support local distilleries, visit pennsylvanialibations.com.

After the extraordinary debut of Alex Stypula’s dark comedy web series, The Hard Dentist, in front of a packed house at Rowhouse Theater, the Drinking Partners host a live podcast with the cast. Co-star Laurie Bolewitz joins Mr. Stypula, who also released his comedy album, Dolphins are Garbage, and the duo discusses the creation of and the inspiration behind The Hard Dentist. With an energized crowd listening, Ms. Bolewitz and Mr. Stypula share the process behind producing a web series, although the interview often leans left into a fun and fantastically strange world. Intermixed with dental humor and spoilers is an engaging and dynamic interaction, one that is swift and gripping. From an animated conversation about flossing to a politically incorrect debate between Ed and Day, the flow weaves between tongue-in-cheek and outrageous, but keeps the live crowd laughing at all times. Much like the outlandish and highly entertaining satirical web series, the podcast will not disappoint.

The Drinking Partners podcast live from City Theatre on the South Side with a full and enlivened audience in attendance after the debut of the Tony Award-Nominated Broadway play Hand to God. Cast members Nick LaMedica and Maggie Carr join City Theatre marketing director Laura Greenawalt in this confessional-style interview. After the highly successful opening night of Hand to God – a wildly dark, sacrilegiously amusing, and R-rated romp through the Christian world of puppetry – two of its stars sit down and chat with Ed and Day about the play and the process of stage acting. The interview offers an in-depth and intimate glance into the workings of the cast and direction behind Hand to God, yet is peppered with Drinking Partners spice throughout. Co-stars Michael Greer and Lisa Velten Smith hop in halfway through, and Day relocates to the audience for a question and answer segment. The Drinking Partners stay true to form and match Hand to God’s hilarious profanity with their own urban twists. A highly enjoyable, zingy, and joke-laden hour of entertainment.

Spoilers abound throughout the podcast, but the play, and, most notably, the uniquely twisted puppetry, must be viewed in person for maximum enjoyment. Hand to God will run through October 16, 2016 at City Theatre. For tickets, visit: https://citytheatre.culturaldistrict.org/production/48456/hand-to-god
