In the early minutes, Ed promises, “We kind of playful then we say some serious s***,” as both Drinking Partners are on their best behavior to welcome Marita Garrett, the first woman to be elected mayor of Wilkinsburg. Mayor Garrett deftly explains the abundance of potholes to the complaining Drinking Partners before exploring her other mayoral duties and offering her best (and hilarious) advice.
Local politics takes center stage midway through when Mayor Garrett offers advice on citizen involvement and how to become an active participant in government. As only the Drinking Partners can master, moments of serious analysis are punctuated with wild interjections, with Mayor Garrett playing along perfectly. An engaged listen that will inspire and encourage listeners. To learn more about Mayor Garrett and her community initiatives, find her on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/MayorMaritaGarrett/.

ShuBrew’s Zach Shumaker, a longtime favorite of the Drinking Partners, stops by the studio is this fun, friendly, and fast episode. Listeners will learn how the latest Drinking Partners and ShuBrew collaboration beer – Bred – came to be, from the black malts to the cherry accents to the uniquely named moniker. A celebrity-inspired story from Zach connects all the beer dots, as Ed and Day add colorful commentary before the conversation shifts to video games and how intricately they are connected to ShuBrew’s beers. With each beer that Zach pours, he gifts listeners with exclusive information about the offering and explains how ShuBrew’s new fermenter system allows them to experiment more. Or, as Ed says, “Zach’s dropping jewels on this episode.” Beer lovers, especially those who enjoy learning about the behind-the-scenes processes and decisions, will particularly enjoy this interview, and its focus on the creation behind each beer that Zach has brought. From yeast and bacteria strains to tiny pizzas, the guys mix facts and fun in a way that will have you laughing. That Drinking Partners experience of mixing laughs with great beer continues Saturday, April 28 at the release party for Bred. Stop by ShuBrew from 3-7 pm to fill your growler with the Drinking Partners black pale ale before seeing live stand up at Comtra Theatre at 7 and 9:30 pm. Kelauni Cook has not lived in Pittsburgh long, yet she has made her mark as one of the city’s up and coming tech experts and brings that expertise to the latest Drinking Partners podcast. After attending a coding boot camp, Ms. Cook founded Black Tech Nation to help “gather, connect, and affect” Black tech professionals. Since then, her reach has expanded to Academy Pittsburgh Beta Builders – Pittsburgh’s first high school coding camp for minorities and girls. At the start of the podcast, Ms. Cook talks about the time that Day went Hollywood on her, which Ed finds unsurprising. A discussion about online privacy veers into unexpected territory and mixes real concerns with hilarious hypotheses that only Ed and Day can imagine. Ms. Cook holds her own with the Drinking Partners throughout which leads to several exchanges that will leave listeners laughing. No technology stone goes unturned in this enjoyable, energetic, and informative interview that highlights how well Ms. Cook has adapted to life in Pittsburgh and how well she adapts to the Drinking Partners follies. Catch Ed and Day this Saturday at Arcade Comedy Theater and find Kelauni at http://blacktechnation.com.
