With the addition of a sober Drinking Partner in comedian Terry Jones, this episode might seem to follow a straighter path, but the laughs roll from the opening minutes. Joined by Jason Sauer, owner of Most Wanted Fine Art, a Pittsburgh gallery that features local, national, and international artists, ones that often do not have the exposure or opportunity to showcase their art. Each month, at their studio and performance space in Garfield, Most Wanted Fine Art promotes a new artist, which allows it to unite art with community service. Midway through, the men discuss demolition derbies and the folksy designs that color the cars, which, for Mr. Sauer, represents a uniquely American art form. Day listens on as Terry and Jason hold a lengthy and detailed discussion centering on cars, from style to size to their cultural influences. For more information about Most Wanted Fine Art, visit: http://mostwantedfineart.com. After one of the strangest and most laughable transitions in Drinking Partners history, Day Bracey and guest host Jared Evans welcome Adam Shuck, creator of Eat That, Read This, a humorous, lunchtime e-newsletter filled with local news and gossip, and editor of The Glassblock, a Pittsburgh-based web magazine focused on culture, craft, and writing. With so much artistic talent in the studio, the conversation quickly centers on the nontraditional workday of entertainers and writers before shifting to a sharp and nuanced analysis of the mood and development of Pittsburgh. The trio briefly discusses journalism and the role of media in today’s political and social climates, while also having some fun talking about tax evasion, which none advise attempting. This Drinking Partners episode provides an informative listen to most things Pittsburgh. Find more from Adam Shuck at www.theglassblock.com and sign up for his newsletter at www.eatthatreadthis.com.

Day Bracey and fellow Epicast podcaster Jared Evans of Grownup Human Comic People join forces for an unfiltered, amusing, and, at times, not safe for work chat before welcoming Andy Kwiatkowski and Gary Olden of Hitchhiker Brewing Company. Stopping by the studio to talk about their new expansion – after acquiring the Fort Pitt Brewery in Sharpsburg – owner Olden and head brewer Kwiatkowski also share several of their newer offerings, including a kettle sour that Day promotes as a key to a strong relationship: “Women love sours because they are fruity, but you also don’t feel like a bitch when you’re drinking it.” Jokes blend with education as the men from Hitchhiker explain what goes into their own crafts while teasing pretentious beer drinkers. This Drinking Partners installment provides an extensive analysis and special insight into what decisions precede the production of a particular beer. A must listen for engaged, but unpretentious, beer drinkers.

Guest host T-Robe, one of Pittsburgh’s top comedians, joins Day Bracey in the studio as a guest host while fellow Drinking Partner Ed Bailey recovers. Joining the duo is Emmai Alaquiva, hot off an appearance on the Jimmy Fallon Show, and, according to T-Robe, “one of the best dressed cats I know.” However, Mr. Alaquiva was not always so well groomed and shares how he evolved into a creative professional after once being homeless and examines the struggles in between. Resourceful and focused, Mr. Alaquiva is an Emmy-award winning businessman, producer, and director who now dedicates his time to helping others prosper creatively. T-Robe, taking over for Ed, pauses the serious conversation to criticize Day’s corduroy pants, lightening the mood with impromptu humor. A thorough and significant discussion follows about the importance of financial knowledge and responsibility before diverging into an entertaining story involving Maya Angelou. Toward the latter half of the podcast, Mr. Alaquiva offers sage advice for artists and creators on how to engage and encourage change politically and socially. The final minutes get fun and loud as the three men compare, argue, and defend their choices for top rappers in the game. Find more about Mr. Alaquiva at his website www.emmaialaquiva.com, or his studio at www.yamomzhouse.com.

The Drinking Partners warmly (despite their hangovers) welcome Pittsburgh’s best jazz musician Phat Man Dee and Rusted Root member and multi-talented solo artist Liz Berlin to the studio to discuss Social Justice Disco, the creative collaboration formed by both women to combat injustice and intolerance. With the goal of “singing against fascism,” the women hope to promote music as a form of protest while educating and encouraging others to do the same, both through their current Social Justice Disco project and through their personal music-based initiatives. The conversation ranges widely, from sacred femininity to giving voice to marginalized communities. Profound and moving, the podcast offers up a female perspective that is both timely and necessary as the women of Social Justice Disco engage and entertain while fighting for equal rights and against hate. After a deeply engrossing political and philosophical discussion, Social Justice Disco performs live, closing the podcast with a performance that is well worth the wait.

Wearing their Christmas worst and sitting fireside, the Drinking Partners podcast live from Rock Bottom Pittsburgh with head brewer Meg Evans and top comic and dirty Santa impersonator Tim Ross. The opening minutes showcase the darker, beer-loving side of Santa Claus as the comedians banter, ridicule and tease, often with outrageously entertaining results. After a customary Drinking Partners conversational detour, Ed and Day introduce their next guests, fellow podcaster Ya Jagoff and Penn Brewery manager and brewer Nick Rosich. After some high-spirited audience interactions, the Drinking Partners make room at the table for Shu Brew owner Zach Shumaker and Spoonwood Brewing’s James Evans. Frenzied, loud, and delightfully untamed, this episode is a wild and jolly listen.

Swigging on Straub Helles, a Game of Thrones-esque, warm-bodied, robust lager designed for the upcoming winter, the Drinking Partners welcome Aaron Watson, host of the Going Deep podcast, which thoroughly explores the passions and fears of wide-ranging guests. From the opening minutes, the men reflect and consider, examining what drives individual journeys. Moments of wit and laughter playfully interrupt the contemplative nature of the interview, which allows Ed and Day the space to be both introspective and self-deprecating. And the time to expose and criticize Santa Claus as a poor businessman and promote panda bears, who, according to Day, are “the Rick Sebak of animals … lovable and adorable.” Ed disagrees and a typical Drinking Partners tangent ensues, full of sarcastic quips and far-fetched tales. A full interview that swings from farcical to profound and is a charming listen. Listen to Going Deep with Aaron Watson on his website www.goingdeepwithaaron.com and catch the Drinking Partners live January 28, 2017 at Comtra Theatre (Cranberry, PA) for a stand-up showcase.

For their 100th episode, the Drinking Partners podcast live from Pittsburgh Playwright’s Theater as they host a beer-sampling, celebratory party for a packed house of lively, loud, and liquored up guests. An abundance of beer and mead from Shu Brew, Rock Bottom, Bloom Brew, and Apis Meadery filled the theater’s lobby as guests sipped for free during the opening hour. With a special-release, collaboration beer aptly named Hundo, Full Pint honored the Drinking Partners with this uniquely crafted, cognac-laced double imperial ale, which is now widely available throughout Pittsburgh. After live comedy provided by headliner T-Robe, Ed and Day enthusiastically welcome one of their most popular guests and Pittsburgh legend Rick Sebak. From the moment he joins, Mr. Sebak entertains and educates as he mixes up a Sidecar cocktail, complete with hand-squeezed lemon juice and strong enough that Ed proclaims, “This tastes like an Uber Ride.” Laughs and Pittsburgh-centric tales abound as Mr. Sebak regales Ed, Day, and an enthralled crowd with his amusing anecdotes. Midway through, pop artist and entrepreneur Baron Batch joins the panel and speaks on the importance of creative art adding beauty and dimension to today’s world, a necessary and timely ideal. Day introduces the final podcast guest and his own hometown hero, Braddock Mayor John Fetterman, who cannot help but discuss the 2016 Presidential Election. A thoughtful, sometimes impassioned, conversation follows. An unforgettable, hour-long anniversary episode that charms and informs, teases and contemplates, and generates wild laughter as only the Drinking Partners can.

Live from Black Forge Coffee House, the Drinking Partners welcome Pittsburgh-based fantasy author Cat Bruno, although she is often more widely known as Day’s girlfriend. Sipping on Apis mead, she stops by to promote her latest release, Queen of Stars and Shadows, an Amazon bestseller in epic fantasy. Ms. Bruno’s long history with both Ed and Day provides an interesting and playful backdrop, made even moreso once the Drinking Partners begin sipping on a Weyerbacher Belgian Quadruple. Blending the personal with the professional, the trio discusses the craft of writing and explores how ideas evolve into stories. Of course, true to the Drinking Partners style, the interview cheerfully deconstructs and allows Ed and Day to engage in moments of hilarious recklessness. A quick listen which offers insight into the business side of writing. For more about Cat, find her at catbruno.com or through Amazon: www.amazon.com/author/catbruno.

In this sport-centered episode, The Drinking Partners welcome professional wrestler Duke Davis for a high-octane, story telling session. As the choke slam champion of Pittsburgh wrestling, Mr. Davis shares tales from the ring and inspires Day to speak on his own wrestling history with unfiltered animation and excitement. Ed takes an uncharacteristic backseat as the two men energetically discuss the history and greats of professional wrestling. Midway through, the interview turns serious, yet still amusing, as Ed reenters to analyze the role of race in the history of the sport. The podcast offers a rare opportunity to hear what happens behind the scenes of a professional wrestling event, from the choreography of a match to the physical training necessary to compete. A bustling, fresh interview with an up and coming Pittsburgh sports star. Find Duke Davis’s upcoming events through Pro Express Wrestling http://www.pwxtv.com.

Full Pint brewer Tom opens the live 100th episode Epic Extravaganza with the special release of the Drinking Partners collaboration beer Hundo. Created with honey malt and soaked in oak chips, this cognac-inspired brew reflects a true Drinking Partners flavor. The Hundo is now available and on tap in bars in the nine counties surrounding Pittsburgh and gets an enthusiastic endorsement from Ed and Day.

Pittsburgh headliner Terry Jones joins the Drinking Partners for a detailed conversation about his rise through the comedic ranks. A master of impressions, Mr. Jones shares amusing tales from Pittsburgh’s early days of comedy, charming Ed and Day into appreciative silence interrupted by loud fits of laughter. Midway through, the men explore the impact of black comedy, personally and professionally. A necessary and important discussion ensues. In the latter half of the podcast, Mr. Jones offers advice for upcoming comics, most notably on how to continually improve. In the final minutes, the trio has a boisterous discussion about comedy legends. A must listen for those in the scene and any who support and enjoy Pittsburgh comedy.

In one of the Drinking Partners best segments, Comedian Todd Glass unofficially officially endorses Mug Root Beer. To all other markets and makers of root beer, Todd Glass offers this wisdom: “You can’t compete … with this liquid candy.” As perhaps the only celebrity actively endorsing Mug with such enthusiasm, the conversation is as entertainingly refreshing as the soft drink. Never before and never after will you listen to ten minutes of such comedic joy centered around the non-alcoholic version of beer. Drive with caution while listening to Ed and Day joke with Todd; the laughs are that dangerously sidesplitting!r.

In the latest release, the Drinking Partners broadcast live from Epicast producers Buzzy Torek & Nick Miller’s living room and welcome repeat guests Pittsburgh-based emcee Hubbs and defense attorney Dan Muessing, who moonlights as freestyle rapper Dos Noun. The commentary shifts between political and confidential in the relaxed atmosphere, with much of the early discussion centering on the legalization of cannabis. From there, an in-depth analysis of the genre of rap ensues, with a complex and thought-provoking conversation developing around the scope of women in lyrics. At times fast-paced and unconstrained, the interview ranges from commentary on the confederate flag to a detailed inquiry into socio-economic realities. The podcast concludes with a discussion and critique of Pittsburgh’s hip-hop culture. Be sure to stay tuned for a impromptu, impressive, and dynamic live performance and collaboration between Hubbs and Dos Noun. A well-timed podcast release on the eve of a momentous election.

After a series of live podcasts, the Drinking Partners return to the studio and welcome Christian Simmons, founding owner of Pennsylvania Libations, a sales and distribution company that only features Pennsylvania-produced spirits. Mr. Simmons serves as a “brand ambassador” for over sixty companies and supplies bars and restaurants with locally made liquors and wines. While sipping on several of the products, Ed and Day listen as Mr. Simmons explains how his company began and the process of connecting local brands with a growing food and beverage industry. The discussion offers a wealth of insider knowledge as the group examines the chain of movement from distillery to glass and the importance of keeping spending locally based. In addition, the Drinking Partners learn the distinctive intricacies and unique properties that distinguish these Pennsylvanian spirits as superior products. Pennsylvania Libations, the only privatized company that sells all local liquors, will expand into its own storefront in the Strip District. For more information on how to support local distilleries, visit pennsylvanialibations.com.

The Drinking Partners podcast live from City Theatre on the South Side with a full and enlivened audience in attendance after the debut of the Tony Award-Nominated Broadway play Hand to God. Cast members Nick LaMedica and Maggie Carr join City Theatre marketing director Laura Greenawalt in this confessional-style interview. After the highly successful opening night of Hand to God – a wildly dark, sacrilegiously amusing, and R-rated romp through the Christian world of puppetry – two of its stars sit down and chat with Ed and Day about the play and the process of stage acting. The interview offers an in-depth and intimate glance into the workings of the cast and direction behind Hand to God, yet is peppered with Drinking Partners spice throughout. Co-stars Michael Greer and Lisa Velten Smith hop in halfway through, and Day relocates to the audience for a question and answer segment. The Drinking Partners stay true to form and match Hand to God’s hilarious profanity with their own urban twists. A highly enjoyable, zingy, and joke-laden hour of entertainment.

Spoilers abound throughout the podcast, but the play, and, most notably, the uniquely twisted puppetry, must be viewed in person for maximum enjoyment. Hand to God will run through October 16, 2016 at City Theatre. For tickets, visit: https://citytheatre.culturaldistrict.org/production/48456/hand-to-god

The Drinking Partners welcome podcaster and blogger Beauty Jackson into the studio for an in-depth discussion about the intersection of social media and social issues. As a woman, mother, and feminist, Ms. Jackson brings a necessary counter-voice to the Drinking Partners’ often-masculine dialogue. The conversation is playful and bustling, yet investigative and analytical, with Ms. Jackson confidently keeping pace with Ed and Day. Topics range from societal taboos to personal preferences and veer all directions in between. To hear more from Beauty Jackson, tune in to her podcast, The Good and Terrible Show or find her at redbeandreams.com.

After an introductory rant about small breweries selling out to larger ones and a high-speed, fervent discussion about black barber shops, the Drinking Partners pause to catch their breaths and welcome local entertainment editor and columnist Scott Tady. A writer for the Beaver County Times for nearly twenty years, Mr. Tady shares his experiences of watching Pittsburgh develop into a haven for music, comedy, and performing arts. For each story that Mr. Tady retells, Ed and Day offer their own, often off-the-wall anecdotes, creating an enthusiastic and amusing hour of banter. As a host of his own podcast (The Buzz), Mr. Tady pairs well with the duo and quickly catches on to the informative, yet occasionally wild, nature of a Drinking Partners interview. An inviting podcast that allows listeners to hear tales from the other side of the entertainment industry.

Rowdy from the start, this live episode features the Drinking Partners welcoming musician Devin from Devin Moses and the Saved and producer Ziggy Sawdust. From Ed’s analysis of Day’s clothing choices to a group discussion about religion, the interview is wild, loud, and fun as it weaves through varying topics. Midway through, an insightful conversation emerges as the group examines stage life¬ – from struggling to appeal to an inattentive audience to fair pay for artists and entertainers. What follows is a confessional of sorts, as the musician and comics open up on what it is like to be a performer, and the trials and tribulations that come with such a life. Devin Moses and the Saved will perform Friday, June 3, at the Layer Cake Music Festival at Spirit Hall (8:20 PM). In celebration of Pittsburgh Craft Beer week, the Drinking Partners welcome local comedian Mike Sasson into their “office,” and even get him to sip on a beer. From the start, the comics heckle and tease, sharing stories from the Pittsburgh comedy scene and entertaining each other, as well as the listeners. Ed, Day, and Mike embarked on their comedy careers within months of each other, and their rising popularities are discussed and analyzed, especially the idea of comedy as a business. From there, the podcast shifts to a conversation about celebrity, fame, and the control that an entertainer has over his/her product. In the latter half of the interview, the conversation turns temporarily serious, as the men wax philosophic on their futures in the industry. In the closing minutes, Mr. Sasson offers grand advice that resonates beyond the comedy world: Know who you are.

Apr 18, 2016

Pennsylvania Senate candidate John Fetterman makes a repeat appearance with the Drinking Partners as he visits the studio in this exclusive interview. Mr. Fetterman does not shy away from any questions that Ed and Day propose, from offering his views on the legalization of marijuana to explaining how the delegate system functions. “I lament the insincerity of a lot of politics,” Mayor Fetterman states, explaining how he has earned the reputation of being a candidate of and for the people. With stories from the campaign trail, such as how he drives himself to all of his events across Pennsylvania, the interview is a lesson in how politics can, and should, be. In perhaps what might be the most interesting moment of the podcast, Mr. Fetterman describes how his appearance has affected how he is perceived. Listeners should tune in to hear his response, one that represents how uniquely talented and greatly important he is for the state of Pennsylvania
