Full Pint brewer Tom opens the live 100th episode Epic Extravaganza with the special release of the Drinking Partners collaboration beer Hundo. Pittsburgh headliner Terry Jones joins the Drinking Partners for a detailed conversation about his rise through the comedic ranks. A master of impressions, Mr. Jones shares amusing tales from Pittsburgh’s early days of comedy, charming Ed and Day into appreciative silence interrupted by loud fits of laughter. Midway through, the men explore the impact of black comedy, personally and professionally. A necessary and important discussion ensues. In the latter half of the podcast, Mr. Jones offers advice for upcoming comics, most notably on how to continually improve. In the final minutes, the trio has a boisterous discussion about comedy legends. A must listen for those in the scene and any who support and enjoy Pittsburgh comedy.

In one of the Drinking Partners best segments, Comedian Todd Glass unofficially officially endorses Mug Root Beer. To all other markets and makers of root beer, Todd Glass offers this wisdom: “You can’t compete … with this liquid candy.” As perhaps the only celebrity actively endorsing Mug with such enthusiasm, the conversation is as entertainingly refreshing as the soft drink. Never before and never after will you listen to ten minutes of such comedic joy centered around the non-alcoholic version of beer. Drive with caution while listening to Ed and Day joke with Todd; the laughs are that dangerously sidesplitting!r.

In the latest release, the Drinking Partners broadcast live from Epicast producers Buzzy Torek & Nick Miller’s living room and welcome repeat guests Pittsburgh-based emcee Hubbs and defense attorney Dan Muessing, who moonlights as freestyle rapper Dos Noun. The commentary shifts between political and confidential in the relaxed atmosphere, with much of the early discussion centering on the legalization of cannabis. From there, an in-depth analysis of the genre of rap ensues, with a complex and thought-provoking conversation developing around the scope of women in lyrics. At times fast-paced and unconstrained, the interview ranges from commentary on the confederate flag to a detailed inquiry into socio-economic realities. The podcast concludes with a discussion and critique of Pittsburgh’s hip-hop culture. Be sure to stay tuned for a impromptu, impressive, and dynamic live performance and collaboration between Hubbs and Dos Noun. A well-timed podcast release on the eve of a momentous election.

Fresh off being voted the top podcast in Pittsburgh (City Paper Best of Pittsburgh 2016), the Drinking Partners get back to business by welcoming Pittsburgh Brewtal Fest organizers Meg and James Evans for a thoroughly enjoyable conversation. Cheerful and entertaining from the opening minutes, the interview offers an hour of amusing tales intermixed with the ideas behind Pittsburgh Brewtal Fest, a music and beer festival and collaboration between local breweries and bands. The conversation serves as a lesson in music for Ed, who blames his mom for “not ever putting him to sleep with metal.” Stay alert and be rewarded with Ed’s wildly fantastic impersonation of Missy Elliot and an outrageously memorable series of jokes following it. For more fun and to sample four, specially crafted, band-inspired beers only available at the festival, visit Pittsburgh Brewtal Fest on November 6 at Spirit Lodge in Lawrenceville.

The Drinking Partners find themselves serene and tranquil after an hour spent at Levity – an out of this world float studio located in Pittsburgh. Or, as Ed teases, “Day went into that deprivation tank a black man and came out a hippie.” Live after a session submerged in Epsom salt and ten inches of water, the Drinking Partners welcome Levity owner Dave Rapach, who explains the process behind the sensory, gravity-defying experience. A thorough and unguarded interview follows, with Ed and Day showing a newfound vulnerability and bliss. But even their relaxed states do not lessen their amusement, as they joke and jibe with Mr. Rapach. A fantastic listen, made even more enjoyable by the Drinking Partners openness and contagious delight. Visit Levity at 2635 Murray Avenue in Squirrel Hill or schedule a float session at www.floatlevity.com.

Cultural revolutionaries Thomas Agnew and D.S. Kinsel, founding members of Jenesis Magazine and the creative workspace Boom Concepts, chat with the Drinking Partners in this energetic, enlightening, and uplifting interview. As important influencers and voices in the urban community, Mr. Agnew and Mr. Kinsel share the stories of their successes, imparting wisdom and advice as they encourage, support, and shape upcoming artists across multiple platforms. The episode is a must-listen for any Pittsburgh-based creator, as the men offer a grassroots education on how to sustain and prosper as independent artists. Boom Concepts serves as an all-welcoming performance center and studio for locally crafted art and music and is the home base for Jenesis Magazine, a free, online publication featuring local and national news and updates. Midway through, Mr. Agnew and Mr. Kinsel detail the essential steps necessary to transition one’s artistic creation into a profitable product. The podcast provides an hour of instruction and guidance and offers a rare and memorable collaboration with some of Pittsburgh’s most important artistic advocates.

After a series of live podcasts, the Drinking Partners return to the studio and welcome Christian Simmons, founding owner of Pennsylvania Libations, a sales and distribution company that only features Pennsylvania-produced spirits. Mr. Simmons serves as a “brand ambassador” for over sixty companies and supplies bars and restaurants with locally made liquors and wines. While sipping on several of the products, Ed and Day listen as Mr. Simmons explains how his company began and the process of connecting local brands with a growing food and beverage industry. The discussion offers a wealth of insider knowledge as the group examines the chain of movement from distillery to glass and the importance of keeping spending locally based. In addition, the Drinking Partners learn the distinctive intricacies and unique properties that distinguish these Pennsylvanian spirits as superior products. Pennsylvania Libations, the only privatized company that sells all local liquors, will expand into its own storefront in the Strip District. For more information on how to support local distilleries, visit pennsylvanialibations.com.

After the extraordinary debut of Alex Stypula’s dark comedy web series, The Hard Dentist, in front of a packed house at Rowhouse Theater, the Drinking Partners host a live podcast with the cast. Co-star Laurie Bolewitz joins Mr. Stypula, who also released his comedy album, Dolphins are Garbage, and the duo discusses the creation of and the inspiration behind The Hard Dentist. With an energized crowd listening, Ms. Bolewitz and Mr. Stypula share the process behind producing a web series, although the interview often leans left into a fun and fantastically strange world. Intermixed with dental humor and spoilers is an engaging and dynamic interaction, one that is swift and gripping. From an animated conversation about flossing to a politically incorrect debate between Ed and Day, the flow weaves between tongue-in-cheek and outrageous, but keeps the live crowd laughing at all times. Much like the outlandish and highly entertaining satirical web series, the podcast will not disappoint.

The Drinking Partners podcast live from City Theatre on the South Side with a full and enlivened audience in attendance after the debut of the Tony Award-Nominated Broadway play Hand to God. Cast members Nick LaMedica and Maggie Carr join City Theatre marketing director Laura Greenawalt in this confessional-style interview. After the highly successful opening night of Hand to God – a wildly dark, sacrilegiously amusing, and R-rated romp through the Christian world of puppetry – two of its stars sit down and chat with Ed and Day about the play and the process of stage acting. The interview offers an in-depth and intimate glance into the workings of the cast and direction behind Hand to God, yet is peppered with Drinking Partners spice throughout. Co-stars Michael Greer and Lisa Velten Smith hop in halfway through, and Day relocates to the audience for a question and answer segment. The Drinking Partners stay true to form and match Hand to God’s hilarious profanity with their own urban twists. A highly enjoyable, zingy, and joke-laden hour of entertainment.

Spoilers abound throughout the podcast, but the play, and, most notably, the uniquely twisted puppetry, must be viewed in person for maximum enjoyment. Hand to God will run through October 16, 2016 at City Theatre. For tickets, visit: https://citytheatre.culturaldistrict.org/production/48456/hand-to-god

The Drinking Partners welcome podcaster and blogger Beauty Jackson into the studio for an in-depth discussion about the intersection of social media and social issues. As a woman, mother, and feminist, Ms. Jackson brings a necessary counter-voice to the Drinking Partners’ often-masculine dialogue. The conversation is playful and bustling, yet investigative and analytical, with Ms. Jackson confidently keeping pace with Ed and Day. Topics range from societal taboos to personal preferences and veer all directions in between. To hear more from Beauty Jackson, tune in to her podcast, The Good and Terrible Show or find her at redbeandreams.com.

Creatives Drink founders Cody Baker and Chancelor Humphrey join the Drinking Partners in this millennial-inspired podcast. The duo visits the studio to promote the Creatives Drink mission, one which aims to bring Pittsburghers together to “discuss their passions, professions, and hobbies in an energized space,” while offering free drinks throughout their networking events. Without surprise, the conversation quickly shifts to an intoxicating one, as the men share tales of past and present pursuits. Creatives Drink seeks to inspire and conjoin, bringing local breweries and distilleries into new venues and in front of new crowds. As the pace quickens, the podcast progresses into a party-like atmosphere. Check out the next Creatives Drink event, Voyage, next month!

Sep 6, 2016

In this after-midnight podcast, the Drinking Partners welcome Pittsburgh Comedy Festival headliner Quincy Jones into the studio, with a live studio audience and a party-like atmosphere. Weeks after his HBO special Burning the Light aired, Mr. Jones entertains and enthralls Ed, Day, and everyone listening with tales that extend far beyond his cancer diagnosis. New York-based comic Norlex Belma sits in as well, and the foursome’s chemistry and interactions play better than many sitcoms. Flashy and fast, the men waste no time verbally sparring with jabs and taunts, as Day’s hot pink shirt serves as comedic inspiration for an unforgettable rant from Mr. Jones. Ed does not escape the roasting fire either, with Mr. Jones deconstructs his gym routine and “African definition and action-figure cut.” There is never a dull moment in what might be one of the Drinking Partners top podcasts to date. Toward the latter half, Mr. Jones shares his experiences of recording and promoting his HBO special, offering an intimate and realistic look into the life of a nationally-touring headliner with a cancer diagnosis. A must-listen podcast that is hilarious and poignant, intimately personal, yet widely entertaining.

Already rowdy after a few beers, the Drinking Partners merrily welcome Drip Lounge owner and fouronetube co-founder, Matt Thornton, and waste no time getting loose-lipped. After a quarter-hour of jokes, the trio delves deeper, exploring their childhood transgressions and the process of evolving out of the difficult cycle of poverty and crime. Mr. Thornton shares his story of overcoming addiction, and, now, owns a successful vape shop that hosts live entertainment on a weekly basis. Toward the end of the interview, the men discuss comedy, rap, and religion, with equal amounts of passion and humor for each topic. An episode that is at time hilarious, philosophical, and inspirational.

Aug 21, 2016

Ed offers some fashion advice before the Drinking Partners welcome repeat guest Alex Stypula, who stops by the studio to promote his upcoming comedy album Dolphins are Garbage. The trio of comedians quickly delves into the process of joke writing, with Mr. Stypula offering an introspective and interesting angle into the world of dark comedy. In an episode that is most assuredly not safe for work, the jokes are many and sometimes strange, but it is impossible not to laugh throughout this animal-influenced interview. Catch Alex on stage at the Pittsburgh Comedy Festival on Friday, August 26 or touring with the Race to the Coffin comedy troupe. Dolphins are Garbage will be released September 23 after a live web series screening at Row House Cinema. Find tickets at the Row House website (www.rowhousecinema.com).

Aug 17, 2016

In the opening minutes of the latest podcast, the Drinking Partners hilariously ponder if any of their listeners are churchgoing. During a particularly rowdy dialogue, Ed directly addresses Jesus, “You created a lot of this, fam. You gonna make the coolest shit illegal.” Appropriately enough, the Drinking Partners soon welcome drinking peer and host of the Should I Drink That podcast, Doug Derda. As host of one of the longest-running podcasts on craft beer, Mr. Derda offers a veteran view of the scene and shares tales of his experiences. The interview that follows shows how Should I Drink That paved the way for the Drinking Partners themselves. A must-listen for devoted craft beer drinkers, as two titans of beer podcasts join and discuss all angles of the culture, with amusing moments from beginning to end.

Aug 7, 2016

After an introductory rant about small breweries selling out to larger ones and a high-speed, fervent discussion about black barber shops, the Drinking Partners pause to catch their breaths and welcome local entertainment editor and columnist Scott Tady. A writer for the Beaver County Times for nearly twenty years, Mr. Tady shares his experiences of watching Pittsburgh develop into a haven for music, comedy, and performing arts. For each story that Mr. Tady retells, Ed and Day offer their own, often off-the-wall anecdotes, creating an enthusiastic and amusing hour of banter. As a host of his own podcast (The Buzz), Mr. Tady pairs well with the duo and quickly catches on to the informative, yet occasionally wild, nature of a Drinking Partners interview. An inviting podcast that allows listeners to hear tales from the other side of the entertainment industry.

Aug 1, 2016

After an upbeat introduction, the Drinking Partners shift into a thoughtful and reflective discussion on the current judicial system and the inherent flaws of it. For the first time on air, Ed and Day discuss the Black Lives Matter movement and encourage listeners to engage in meaningful dialogue with the duo via Twitter (@daybracey, @edbaileycomedy, @partnerspod). Local, urban artist Durty Art soon joins and explores the concept of creating art as therapy. Influenced by early Hip Hop, Durty Art brings a musical and multilayered style to many of his works. During the interview, he explains his influences, his history with fan art, and his future focusing on limited prints. In the rapid-fire segment, Durty Art answers the Drinking Partners’ questions with ease and honesty, and the podcast concludes with a positive vibe. A compelling listen with a memorable thirty minutes of political and social commentary.

Jul 25, 2016

Ed Latimore, professional boxer and physicist-in-training, joins the Drinking Partners to ponder and muse as only a modern-day Renaissance man can. Recently signed to Roc Nation Sports, Mr. Latimore, or “Black Magic,” as he is known in the ring, remains undefeated in his professional career (13-0) and offers a rare perspective in this captivating interview. The podcast begins with Mr. Latimore’s examination of how understanding the science of movement impacts his approach to boxing. As both an intellect and a fighter, he converses with the Drinking Partners with a swift wit and a sharp style, as tales from the ring are mixed with Drinking Partners-style jesting banter. At times playful and at times introspective, the interview is a fast and furiously engaging hour.

Jul 18, 2016

In this live podcast from Rock Bottom Pittsburgh, the Drinking Partners welcome Rock Bottom’s brewer Meg Evans and Dave Cerminara from Apis Meadery, who share their recent collaboration, a blueberry-infused braggot, a centuries-old drink that combines mead and beer. A large and lively crowd listens in as Ed and Day attempt (and mostly fail) to keep their questions and jokes family-friendly. Soon, all bets are off as Ms. Evans, one of only a handful of female brewers, opens the taps and offers all of Rock Bottom’s selections. It’s nearly impossible to guess who enjoys this live podcast the most: the Drinking Partners, the brewers, or the guests at Rock Bottom. The highly interactive and bustling crowd chimes in often, with zingers that impress even the two comedians. Brewing since 2001, Rock Bottom Pittsburgh has come close to mastering the craft, yet remains welcoming and fun, much like its head brewer, Ms. Evans. This podcast is ninety minutes of energy, entertainment, and information, a treat for the listeners, but even moreso for those lucky enough to have been in attendance.

Jul 14, 2016

Lee Terbosic, known as The Pittsburgh Magician, joins a select few as he returns to chat with the Drinking Partners in this follow-up episode. Mr. Terbosic, a nationally touring comedian and magician, brings his wildly entertaining show, Bamboozled, to Dave and Busters (Pittsburgh) each Saturday night. Despite Ed’s attempts to convince Lee to reveal some illusionary secrets, the magician deftly declines, although he does suggest that Ed must first purchase both a rabbit and a hat. Shortly after, Mr. Terbosic explains to Day that he needs more than “strong ankles” to be able to master Michael Jackson’s Smooth Criminal movements. The interview is one of the Drinking Partner’s best, balanced with information, amusement, and, of course, some classic Drinking Partner craziness. Be sure to have this on repeat play, especially once Mr. Terbosic begins to beguile Ed and Day with mentalist tricks, leaving both comedians ready to intern with The Pittsburgh Magician.

Philadelphia-born, but Pittburgh-living rapper Nerd Boy joins the Drinking Partners in this enlightening and energetic episode. Early on, Ed speaks on Nerd Boy’s charismatic originality while informing listeners that he is the only rapper who performs in “boat shoes.” With a combination of lyrical intelligence and a dynamic stage presence, Nerd Boy proves why he is a rising star in the rap scene. The podcast moves swiftly; an early discussion on the delicate line between being a performer versus being a minstrel is of particular interest. Toward the interview’s midpoint, the trio muses on the rising importance and acceptance of education in art and culture. While Nerd Boy works on his second album, listeners can check out his first, “Philadelphia Warriors.” Much like their guest, this Drinking Partners podcast is smart and animated.

Jun 21, 2016

Comedian Ray Zawodni, a “white dude with swag” according to Ed, joins The Drinking Partners in the studio for an hour of laughs. Sports talk soon commences, as the men muse about soccer and hackey sack, which Ray admits is the “most embarrassing thing that white people have done.” From there, the alcohol-infused interview goes wild, entertainingly untamed as the trio proposes a dating site for the homeless. At the podcast’s midpoint, the comics discuss the art of stand-up, offering up viewpoints on how to react to a hostile crowd and how jokes are crafted. Tipsy by the episode’s end, The Drinking Partners and Ray let loose and perform as if they are on stage, sharing uncensored and outrageous opinions and jokes, each bit more raucous and disorderly than the next. A frenzied, lawless, and amusing listen, but definitely not safe for work.

Jun 14, 2016

In the latest release from The Drinking Partners, Ed and Day welcome poet Fred “Fu” Underwood, creator and host of The Canvas of Words poetry series. Beginning June 25 at the Kelly Strayhorn Theater, the series offers poets and visual artists an opportunity and audience where open dialogue is promoted and personal experiences shared. Encouraged by the Drinking Partners to recite some of his own work, Mr. Underwood drops lines with passionate ease and intellectual soulfulness. This cheerful episode ranges from entertaining tales of shopping adventures to a uniquely comedic take on American taxation. Another fine interview with a rising Pittsburgh artist.
